If you’re thinking about entering the world of blogging, don’t start off by starting with the “get your blog set up and blogging!” phase. If you get into it too early, you’ll be setting yourself up for a large amount of wasted time as you try to figure out what’s needed to set up a quality blog.
Don’t get frustrated. I feel that if you rush into blogging, you’re going to end up with a blog that’s lacking in content and only works when people use it. So, there’s a bit of a trade-off between speed and effectiveness in my opinion.
If you have the basic blogging tools and resources, then you don’t need much to get started. You can get a hosting plan to get your blog up and running pretty quickly. Also, there are software programs and blogging platforms that you can use to build your own blogs, for free.
I know that for some of you, you might not be ready to build a personal website yet. However, if you already have a domain name and hosting account, then you can simply purchase a blog to make use of those resources.
If you want to try your hand at blogging, you need to determine what you’re going to be writing about. Will you be focusing on a certain product or service? Do you have any hobbies that you’d like to share with others? These are all great topics to blog about.
Read up on the topic and decide if it’s something that you want to invest your time and effort into. If you enjoy it, you can probably see how it will be a benefit to you. However, if you decide that blogging is not for you, then don’t worry about it. Just move on and find something else that you’re interested in.
Next, you’ll need to choose a blogging platform. The most popular and advanced blogging platforms include Blogger, WordPress, Joomla, and the like. These allow you to create and manage your blog without having to know a lot about HTML or PHP. They also provide you with the ability to upload all of your posts and pages to your site so that you can display them easily in search engines.
In addition to these, you’ll also need to get a number of professional-grade software tools, which include things like blogging software, text editors, video editors, and RSS readers. Again, you can get them for free if you want, but you’ll probably end up wasting your money in the long run by spending it on something that’s only really useful to other people.
Once you have your blog set up and running, you need to look into monetizing it. Of course, there are plenty of ways to make money from blogging, but I think the best way to do it is to sell advertising space. This way, you’ll be able to earn an income even if you’re not using your blog very often.
It’s also important to get your blogs indexed on the major search engines. Some blogs are set up to only display the first 100 or so results when the user types a particular keyword, but you’ll want to keep that high ranking.
One more obvious benefit of blogging is that it keeps you constantly updated on new products and services. This is important because it allows you to spend your time doing something you love. Plus, it helps you avoid annoying “buzz” regarding your product, making it easier to get customers.
